We are currently seeking to fill the position of Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer, where in this role, you'll provide rotating equipment and machinery technical expertise to Chevron Phillips Chemical Company’s project execution teams, turnaround teams, and manufacturing facilities worldwide. This role will collaborate with the multi-discipline Subject Matter Experts, Metallurgists & Engineers in the Central Engineering Group, as well as Plant and Project Engineers & Analysts to meet project and company objectives.
The scope of expertise desired includes steam turbines, electric motors, centrifugal, screw, reciprocating and hyper compressors, blowers, fans, centrifugal, positive displacement, and axial flow pumps, extruders, mixers, and solids handling equipment, plus related items such as mechanical seals, couplings, gears, bearings, and auxiliary systems for machinery lubrication, shaft sealing, overspeed protection, and condition monitoring. The Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer shall possess diversified technical skills in process design, mechanical design, vibration analysis, machinery reliability, failure analysis, and control of critical rotating equipment and related auxiliaries.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
Work with the company Standards Manager and other Rotating Equipment Engineers to develop, vet, deploy, and maintain Corporate Rotating Equipment engineering specifications and design best practices.
Provide interpretation of the Company standards and specifications, may be requested to review variance requests.
Support Project Engineers and Project Managers in the technical vetting of Company and contractor rotating equipment and inspection personnel on domestic and select international projects.
Support Project Teams with the development of safe, efficient, and reliable equipment designs by assisting with specification development, bid evaluation, inspection planning, pre-fabrication meetings, vendor drawing reviews, EPC deliverable reviews, FAT witness, and startup witness.
Participate in PHA/LOPA studies related to rotating equipment / systems.
Participate in the development and implementation of rotating equipment reliability strategies.
Participate in, or facilitate, project Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) studies.
Provide troubleshooting of problems during commissioning and startup of new equipment, and as requested, problems with existing equipment.
Advise Project Maintenance Representatives in the development of recommended spare parts purchases for new projects.
Work with plant rotating equipment personnel to leverage knowledge and resources across the company including participation in the Reliability Focus Maintenance Best Practice Team.
Participate in industry associations to stay current in emerging trends and technologies.
Liaise with parent company Engineers to share and leverage knowledge and resources.
Collaborate with Global Procurement to develop and maintain the Company AVL for rotating equipment and participate in contractor and vendor/manufacturer quality assessments.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 15 years Chemical/Refinery plant design/maintenance/operations experience in Rotating Equipment is required. Olefins and/or Polymers experience is preferred.
Outstanding practical knowledge of industry standards and codes (API, ASME/ANSI, NEMA, etc). is required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with a broad range of company business leaders, project teams, plant personnel, and contractors.
Demonstrated ability to work from a position of credible influence based on rotating equipment knowledge versus a position of authority.
Proficiency in MS Office required.
Project experience as an Owner’s Rotating Equipment Engineer or Subject Matter Expert during the design, construction, commissioning, and startup phases of a large chemical or refinery project is preferred.
Certification and/or formal training in vibration analysis, rotordynamics, bearing design, root cause failure analysis, lubrication, and FMEA are preferred.
APM / CMMS / SAP experience is preferred.
Prior experience in an enterprise "home office" central support is preferred.
Position will require 25-30% travel, most of it local in the Houston or Southeast Texas area, with an occasional domestic air or international trip.
Must be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport, work visa, or similar documentation.
